The Time is Passing

I've been rather bad about blogging as of late... Can you guess why? Here's what you've missed.

Greg has been traveling quite a bit. So, one week, I packed up the boys and headed to MiMi's house. MiMi gave John a bath in the sink. You can't tell, but John is looking at Noah. He loves to look at his older brother.

We took Noah (and John) to an event put on by Parents as Teachers. It was called "On the Go." They had a bus, police car, mail truck, fire truck, ambulance, etc.

Noah's 1st Bus Ride

Officer Noah

Greg loves to golf. One Sunday afternoon, we headed to the driving range. That turned out not to be the best idea we've ever had... Crying babies and yelling toddlers are not what you expect when you go hit a bucket of balls.

Each month, I take a picture of the boys in the red chair on the date of their birth. So, on the 18th of April, I put John in the chair. He wouldn't wake up, but I took the picture anyway since he's so cute. At that point, he was 7 weeks. I spent 2 days trying to figure out how he was only 7 weeks, but 2 months... He wasn't born on the 18th. Noah was. He was born on the 25th. (Does that mean I'm not getting enough sleep???)

7 wk picture

So, here are the boys on John's actual 2 month birthday. Noah always wants to get in the picture too. It's pretty cute. It's nearly impossible to get them to both look at the camera. You take what you can get, right?

the REAL 2 month picture

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Branson for my sweet friend's baby shower. John went with me. Noah and Greg went to the Cardinals game. It was Noah's first Cardinals game. I'm a little sad I missed it, but they had fun. Noah suffered a minor injury. He fell and busted his lip open. We kept asking him if it was better and he'd say, "No, not yet."

He didn't own a Cardinals shirt, so we had to go with one with a baseball on it. I've since purchased him a Cardinals shirt and hat.

Noah and John in their "matching" shirts
We went to our friend's house for a little play date. Noah came walking out like this... He's wearing heels.

Remember the 84 other people who were pregnant with me? Well, all the babies have arrived. Here are a few... Champ Hunter (1 week), Nathaniel Thom (7 weeks), and Giant John (9 weeks).

John got me a Mother's Day present all on his own with no help from anyone. He slept all night Saturday night. I fed him at 8p at our friend's house. When we got home I put him to bed. He didn't wake up until 5:30a. He hasn't done it since, but really, he does quite well. He usually goes 7-8 hours every night. The problem is, he has his last feeding at 8. I keep trying to push him back or wake him up before I go to bed. It always backfires on me... He's getting there though.

Noah loves to help Greg in the yard. I use the term help loosely. He always seems to think he needs daddy's tools. It doesn't stop Greg though! He just uses Noah's. Not nearly as efficient...

Noah loves to look at geese and other water fowl. On Mother's Day, we went to Whole Foods for some gelato and then walked around the pond. There are geese, ducks, and swans.

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

Like most boys, Noah is constantly skinning his knees. Saturday, he fell twice and did a little damage. When he got up from his nap, he told my mom she would have to put him in his car seat. He wouldn't be able to climb in because of his knees. Now how did he know that???

Sunday after church, we went to lunch to celebrate John's dedication and Mother's Day. Noah did something (I really didn't see what happened) and Greg got up to discipline him. Noah said "It was an accident." When that didn't stop Greg, he said "It was on purpose." He was going to try anything.

Sadly, sweet little John has a hernia. We went to meet with the surgeon yesterday. Noah was with us, of course. After all, he is my trusty sidekick! I was talking to Dr. Dillon. Noah was playing. The surgeon explained they would go in, make sure everything was in place, close it up. They would use steri strips, not glue. Noah pipes in and says, "Open it up, close it up. We won't use glue. And we're just talking today." He doesn't miss a thing!

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

When I take a shower, I always put Noah in his room with the gate up. I got him into his room and put the gate up. Noah said he wanted his frog. I threw him over the gate. Noah handed him back to me and said, "Don't throw him. Can you hand him to me?" (Now where do you suppose he's heard that before?)

He asked where his friend, Canon, lives. I said Eureka. He said "My-reka."

Noah is always saying, "I almost fell down," or "I almost burped," when in fact he he did do whatever he said he "almost" did.

Noah asked me one morning if I had a boo-boo from my glasses. I said no. He then pointed to a blemish on my forehead.

Whenever I say something silly or do something silly, I say "ding dong." We were at Dewy's (a very yummy pizza place). I asked our server for a 1/2 cup of milk for Noah. She brought it back and said it was a little more than half full. She sat it down in front of Noah and he said, "Ding dong." Luckily, I'm pretty sure she didn't hear him.

Noah was playing in the "not so great room," as Greg calls it. He said out of the blue, "Thank you, my good mudder."

He was sitting on his potty and said, "Do you hear the pee-pees going in there?"

I had to run into the Family Christian Store. My mom staying in the car with the boys so I could just get in and out. Noah said to my mom, "Is that Dick's?" It was indeed.

A few weeks ago, as we were about to leave church, one of our friends asked Noah what was in the case as she pointed to a soft guitar case over some one's shoulder. Noah said, "A gun."

I had the boys at a meeting with me. I put Noah in the stroller so he was contained. He said to the lady next to me, "I like your shoes." A bit later, he told me he wanted to get out. I said no. The next thing I know, he's out. He had told the lady how to get him out of the stroller. He had just buttered her up... Smart fellow.

Noah told my mom to sit by him on the floor. She told him she wanted to sit on the chair, he said, "Come sit by me, I told you."

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

I took Noah to a meeting the other night. He turned to the lady next to him and said, "I like your shoes."

Noah got another hair cut today. Before we went, I was talking about what was going to happen. (Last time he didn't want to wear the cape or sit still. It was a little rough.) He said "I don't want the hair dryer." I think what he really meant was he didn't want the clippers.

After his hair cut, he got a sucker for being such a good boy. I asked him if it was banana flavor. He said, "No, it's a sucker." I them asked if it tasted like a banana. Once again he said, "No, it's a sucker."

This afternoon he told me I looked stinky... Then he said I looked pretty. (I hope he was just confused.)

We were outside swinging. I was pushing him. He said "I want to go louder."

We always tell Noah he can scream outside, but not in the house. He and Greg were watching a YouTube video of DC Talk. Noah said "Are they screaming?" Greg said yes. Then Noah asked "Are they outside?"

Amazing Gray

My parents have a keyboard with pre-programmed songs on it. My dad always plays "House of the Rising Sun" but sings "Amazing Grace" (or Amazing Gray as Noah calls it). My dad found "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun" on YouTube. So, enjoy Noah watching it... (He might just be a Blues singer when he grows up.)

Spring has Sprung...

...in more ways than one. Okay, so I can't take full credit for that statement, but it was so clever. Remember all the pregnant mommies at my church? Four of the seven have been born. The fourth was actually born on Easter morning, which is also when this picture was taken.

John & Noah with their Easter baskets

After church on Easter Sunday, we piled in the car and drove to Greg's parents house. Most of Greg's family was there. We had a really yummy lunch. And, Grandma planned an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Noah was the youngest hunter, so he got to go first. It was super windy. The eggs were blowing across the sidewalk after the kids had collected them and were going through their buckets.

"I thought she just had some candy in her hand... Where did it go?"

Playing with his Chalk Hawk

We've had lots of skinned knees already... His left knee has 3 separate skins on it; his right just has one massive one. When I put him in the bathtub the other night, he said, "Don't wash by boo-boos, mommy."

Ouch!

This weekend, Greg was out doing the winter clean up in the yard. Noah was helping. Greg had gloves on while he was raking (or braking as Noah says). Noah thought he needed "glubs" on too. Poor Greg... He was raking the leaves into nice little piles in the yard. Noah was coming along behind him spreading them out with his rake...

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

Noah likes to get in and out of the car by himself. You'd think that would be helpful... Unfortunately, he's a dawdler. The other day I told him to hurry up. He looked up at me and said, "Don't worry, I'm comin'."

Today, Greg went in to get Noah up from his nap. Greg asked Noah how froggy got out. Noah replied, "He jumped over the gate."

Eater Egg Hunt

Our church hosted an Easter egg hunt last weekend. We kept telling Noah we were going. He said, "I shoot 'em." (Greg hunts...)

Anyway, it was pretty cold. By the time I got John ready to go outside for the hunt, they were coming back in. It was the fastest hunt I've ever seen (or not seen as the case may be). Noah didn't get many eggs, but he was happy with his stash and he had more than enough candy!

Poppy's Layette

Okay, this would be a really good "Name that baby." That was not my intention when I started, but I can't resist! So, give it a try...

This is the layette my dad wore home from the hospital after he was born.

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

Greg came out ready for work one day in a blazer. Noah (with mouth full of oatmeal) said "Don't wear that." Greg said he was going to wear it to work. Noah replied "Take that off. It's not comfy for you."

We caused a scene in the mall... I'm sure the first of many. We were running errands and were really close to the mall. I wanted to run in and get one thing really quick. I knew what I wanted and the store was close to the door. I had just been to Sam's and filled the back of the car with stuff , so I couldn't get the stroller out. I put John in the Baby Bjorn and just held Noah's hand. The store we were in has a little play area for kids. I told him he could play as long as he was obedient when I said it was time to go. He threw a fit (on the floor) when I said it was time. So, I picked him up and had him under my arm. (It was the only way I could carry a kicking, screaming boy with another one strapped to my front.) People were looking at me, of course. Finally, I asked Noah if he wanted to walk. He did, so I told him he needed to turn off his fit. Thankfully, he did!

Speaking of Sam's... I told Noah we were going to Sam's. The entire time we were shopping in Sam's, he kept saying "Is Sam going to be here?" Me: "No, Sam's is a store, not a person."

The other morning, I was cleaning up after breakfast. Noah was looking at one of Greg's books. He said "It says 'juh' mommy." I couldn't figure out what he was talking about. I turned around and looked. He was pointing to the G on the cover page.

Bye Bye Birdie

Can you guess what caused this on our living room ceiling?

Too bad the picture doesn't do it justice!

Last Saturday night, we went to small group. We had a sitter for Noah. When we got home, we walked her to the door. Greg was just about to close the door and in flew a bird! We were running around trying to figure out what to grab quickly to catch it or shew it out. Jinx (one of our cats) cornered it behind the sofa cushions. I'm thinking to myself, there are going to be bird guts all over my white sofa... Greg came up from the basement with a laundry basket. Not really sure exactly what happened, but the bird "escaped" and then there was a huge dent in our ceiling. After some chasing, the bird ended up in John's room. We closed the door so it was at least contained. I was a little disgusted it was in John's room, but what can you do? Meanwhile, John had woken up and was starving to death. I started feeding John. Greg went in to catch the bird. Every once in a while I would hear a bunch of noise. Then he would come out and I could hear the chirping (you know, heckling him). Eventually, he caught it under a box and was able to slide another flattened box under it.

The bird only pooped in one place. But there were feathers everywhere! Noah slept through the whole thing, but we told him about it the next morning. All week, he's been talking about it as if he were there. He keeps saying the bird flew in and pooped on the pillow and it was gross.

Happy One Month, John!

It seems impossible that John is a month old today... He had his one month check up today, in fact. He now weighs 10 pounds, 4 ounces. He's in the 75th percentile for both height and weight. He had a great check up. But next week he's having an ultrasound on his hips. Apparently, it's standard for breech babies. They check to see if the hip socket is loose, which can happen because of their position in the womb. If it is, he'll need a harness for a few months. We're praying he won't need the harness.

John's 1 month picture

Noah's 1 month picture

Whenever the camera appears, Noah wants his picture taken...

I think we're starting to adjust. Noah is definitely adjusting. He's still having trouble being obedient. He's figured out he can get away with stuff when I'm nursing John. I'm not really sure what to do about that... Any ideas? (Yelling and making idol threats doesn't count.)

John is a good eater and sleeper. It seems during the day he would sleep for a rather long time if I didn't wake him. But, I try to wake him so that he eats every 3 hours during the day.

Noah always asks where John is if we come out without him. He wants to hold him all the time too. He thinks he's big enough to pick him up...

We're dying for some nice weather. Noah needs to get out and burn some energy... We've had a few nice days, but it's still really wet. I'm certainly ready for spring!

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

I nearly forgot the funniest thing Noah said this week...

I went to get him up from his nap one day. He said to me, "Did you eat a Thin Mint?" I asked why he thought that. He sniffed great big and said, "I can smell it."

Another Snapshot

While we were still at the hospital when John was born, Noah was very off his schedule. He had late naps and late bedtimes because he was visiting us. Noah never falls asleep anymore unless he's in his bed... He was very tired.

Settling in at home.

Feeding the babies.

When John had his first doctors appointment, my mom dropped John and I off and took Noah to Trader Joe's so he could do some shopping.

There's always room on mommy's lap.

The weekend after we came home from the hospital, we took Noah to the park. It was sort of warmish. He mostly just wandered around watching the other kids. (There were 896 kids there. I thought it would be crowded, but not that crowded.)

Yesterday, Noah woke up really early and was sick. Poor little guy...

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

This morning, Noah was sitting in his highchair eating breakfast. Greg was on the computer. Noah said, "Daddy, you need a spanking." We asked him why. He said, "Because you touched the computer."

Greg and Noah were out running errands. They saw a dead squirrel on the road. Greg said, "Ewe!" Noah piped in and said "He has a bad bonker."

Noah randomly said to me this week, "Relax, mommy."

Greg and Noah were playing hide and seek. Greg was hiding. Noah was having a little trouble finding him, so Greg said, "Pssst." Noah answered (in a whisper), "Yeah."

You Never Know What He'll Say (or Do)

My mom was bringing Noah to the hospital to visit when John was born. On the way, Noah announced he had a board meeting tonight. On the way home, he said "turn right on Manchester."

Another time on the way home from the hospital, my mom said they would take the short cut. They got turned around. Noah kept asking, "Is this the cutter way, MiMi?"

Last Sunday morning, I called Noah to tell him good morning when we got up. The first thing he said was "Can we come see you next, mommy?" (It kind of broke my heart a little bit...)

Noah got in trouble for standing in his high chair. I went to get him out of his time out and was talking to him about why he was in trouble. He said "it's dangerous."

I was giving my mom our address. Once I said the street address, Noah pipped in with the city and zip code.

I was feeding John. Noah asked if I was going to feed him on the other tummy.
